FREE PERENNIALS & ANNUALS
A nursery in Sublette, Kansas is donating perennials and annuals for May 4, 2007 survivors. Plants will be available for pick up at Steve and Connie Dawson’s House, 402 W. Florida, Greensburg, on Sunday, June 20 in the afternoon.

Additionally, gardeners in Sublette have divided their daylily and iris beds to share them with residents of Kiowa County.

GARDEN TOUR
The Kiowa County Master Gardener Program has scheduled a Garden Tour for Sunday, June 27th from 4 – 7 p.m. Come spend the evening gathering ideas for your landscapes and gardens!

LESSER PRAIRIE CHICKEN HABITAT
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Kansas announced that applications for participation in a national initiative designed to improve the Lesser Prairie Chicken habitat will be accepted through June 25, 2010. Kansas has received a $750,000 allocation for this initiative.

Through this initiative, landowners would be provided the opportunity to retain the cover established through the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), and NRCS would assist them in transitioning this cover to managed grazing lands. Some of the targeted counties are: Barber, Clark, Comanche, Edwards, Ford, Kiowa, Meade, Pawnee, Pratt, and Stafford.

In Kansas, socially disadvantaged, limited resource, and beginning farmers and ranchers will receive a higher payment rate conservation practices related to this initiative.

CALLING ALL ADULTS – SUMMER ART CLASSES
The 5.4.7 Arts Center will be hosting a series of Arts Classes for adults every Wednesday from 6:30 - 8 p.m. beginning June 2nd through August 4th at the Arts Center, 204 W. Wisconsin. The class series will be the same as the youth classes, except for June 9th, June 30th, and July 21st where classes will be changed to more adult oriented classes. FARMER’S MARKET
The Farmer’s Market is open on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the old City Hall location, 239 S. Main Street, Greensburg. Hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. each Saturday.

The Farmer’s Market season will run through September 25th. Plant Problems Clinics will be held the last Saturday of the month. Customer’s can bring their plant problems to the Market and get help from Master Gardeners.

Vendor’s booth space will cost $5. To register for a booth, contact the Extension Office at 620-723-2156.

The Farmer’s Market is sponsored by Kiowa County Extension, City of Greensburg, and Kiowa County Master Gardeners.

NEW KIOWA COUNTY FAIR EVENTS
· Friday, July 23 – ATV Rodeo at 7:00 p.m. Anyone in Kiowa County who owns an ATV can participate. Run barrel race, pole bending, flag race and an obstacle course on your ATV at the Triangle Rodeo Grounds. $20 entry fee.
· Saturday, July 24 – Tractor Pull at 2:00 p.m. The Dirt Busters Pulling Association will be providing a Tractor Pull at the Triangle Rodeo Grounds. Everyone is invited to come watch the FREE event.
· Sunday, July 25 – Parent/Youth Trap Shoot at 3:00 p.m. Any Kiowa County youth (age 18 and under) who has taken a Hunter Safety Course can participate with their parent in the Trap Shoot. If you are a youth without a partner, contact the Extension Office as adults are willing to shoot with you. Event to be held at the Kiowa County Gun Club.

GREENSBURG CITY GOVERNMENT
· City Hall Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday.

BEER TASTING AT 5.4.7 ARTS CENTER
The 5.4.7 Arts Center will be hosting its 1st Annual Beer Tasting on Saturday, June 19th at 8 p.m. Live music will be provided by Mike Benish and an Artwork Raffle will also be part of the festivities. Tickets will be $20 for Arts Center Members and $25 for non-members. Tickets include beer, food, and a 5.4.7 pint glass.

KIOWA COUNTY COUNCIL ON AGING
The Kiowa County Council on Aging will be sponsoring the following upcoming events:
· On Wednesday, June 16 we are going on a field trip to the Pratt County Historical Museum. Buses will be departing from the Methodist Church in Greensburg at 1 pm (after lunch). Free transportation is available for the first 24 people that sign up.

GREENSBURG “PAYING IT FORWARD”

E-WASTE DAY SCHEDULED
Sunflower Regional E-waste collection project in Cooperation with Rice County Recycling and E-Waste will be hosting a Kiowa County Collection Day on June 5, 2010 at the Kiowa County Recycling Center from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Items to be collected: audio equipment, batteries, cameras, cell phones, computers, copiers, CRT monitors, CRT televisions, electronic media, fax machines, gaming systems, hard drives, ink & toner cartridge, laptop, LCD equipment, media players, medical equipment, networking equipment, plasma televisions, printers, projectors, security and surveillance equipment, server cabinets, servers, storage devices, telephone systems, telecommunication equipment, wireless communications, microwave ovens and miscellaneous accessories. Specific items within these categories may not be accepted so please check with project contacts.

OAK HAVEN PLAZA OPEN HOUSE
An Open House for the Oak Haven Plaza Apartment complex at 205 East Nebraska in Greensburg will be held on Sunday, June 6, 2010, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Come visit USDA representatives, dignitaries and the Iroquois Center staff as you tour the new consumer apartments in Greensburg.

KIOWA COUNTY COUNCIL ON AGING
The Kiowa County Council on Aging will be sponsoring the following upcoming events:
· On Monday, June 7 KCCA is sponsoring a community meeting in Haviland at Origins Coffeehouse at 3 pm. We’d like to meet local residents and hear about any programs & services you’d like to see for Haviland seniors (age 60+). Complimentary refreshments available for those who attend.
· On Wednesday, June 9 we will be hosting a special “kickoff” meal from noon to 2 pm at the Methodist Church in Greensburg to celebrate the resumption of our Senior Center programs & services. Special homemade food will be served, including meatloaf, salad, cake and ice cream. And live music entertainment will be provided by Greensburg piano extraordinaire Randy Rinker! All ages are welcome to attend free of charge…just let us know by 5 pm Monday if you will be coming.
· On Wednesday, June 16 we are going on a field trip to the Pratt County Historical Museum. Buses will be departing from the Methodist Church in Greensburg at 1 pm (after lunch). Free transportation is available for the first 24 people that sign up.

BEER TASTING AT 5.4.7 ARTS CENTER
The 5.4.7 Arts Center will be hosting its 1st Annual Beer Tasting on Saturday, June 19th at 8 p.m. Live music will be provided by Mike Benish and an Artwork Raffle will also be part of the festivities. Tickets will be $20 for Arts Center Members and $25 for non-members. Tickets include beer, food, and a 5.4.7 pint glass.

NEW KIOWA COUNTY FAIR EVENTS
· Friday, July 23 – ATV Rodeo at 7:00 p.m. Anyone in Kiowa County who owns an ATV can participate. Run barrel race, pole bending, flag race and an obstacle course on your ATV at the Triangle Rodeo Grounds. $20 entry fee.
· Saturday, July 24 – Tractor Pull at 2:00 p.m. The Dirt Busters Pulling Association will be providing a Tractor Pull at the Triangle Rodeo Grounds. Everyone is invited to come watch the FREE event.
· Sunday, July 25 – Parent/Youth Trap Shoot at 3:00 p.m. Any Kiowa County youth (age 18 and under) who has taken a Hunter Safety Course can participate with their parent in the Trap Shoot. If you are a youth without a partner, contact the Extension Office as adults are willing to shoot with you. Event to be held at the Kiowa County Gun Club.
