TOWN HALL MEETING
There will be a town hall meeting to discuss the long term planning of Greensburg on Thursday, August 2nd. There will be a meal provided at 5:30 p.m. and is being coordinated by Famous Dave’s BBQ. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with a presentation of the draft long term plan. After the presentation, the public is asked to provide feedback on the plan.

COMMUNITY CHURCH SERVICE
The Kiowa County Ministerial Alliance will be sponsoring a community-wide, all faiths church service on Sunday, August 5th. The service will be held in Davis Park under the blue and yellow tent. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m.

COMMUNITY MEAL AND FELLOWSHIP
The Kiowa County Ministerial Alliance will be hosting a free community meal on Wednesday, August 1st at 5 p.m. in Davis Park. The ministerial alliance will also be providing information about coping with the emotional and physical stress of dealing with natural disasters. Please come and fellowship with other residents of your community.

HIGHWAY MORATORIUM CONTINUED
The Greensburg City Council voted unanimously on Monday, July 23rd to continue the highway 54 corridor moratorium for another 18 months.

FRAUD TASK FORCE
The Greensburg Fraud Task Force will investigate and prosecute any thefts of federal disaster relief funds. Call

MEALS FOR SALE
· Cannonball Catering and WB’s Bulk Food is selling lunches just east of Davis Park Monday through Friday.
· Kansan Restaurant is serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
· JD’s BBQ will be serving meals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week at the intersection of Bay and Hwy 54. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner will be served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

CAMP NOAH
The Kiowa County Ministerial Alliance will be hosting a vacation bible school program called “CAMP NOAH” August 6th – 10th for children, kindergarten through 6th grade, who survived the tornado. There will be lots of games and toys, disaster related counselors, arts and crafts, therapeutic dogs, and much more at the program.

The bible school program will be held at Barclay College from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Currently there is no transportation to the VBS. Contact Julie Hillshaffer at 620-388-3760 to register by August 4th.

GREENSBURG CITY HALL
· City Hall Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday.
· Lost and Found Station has been set up at City Hall. New items are arriving daily.
· City Council meetings will begin meeting on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month starting on August 6th. The meetings will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the yellow and white tent on the square. There will be no City Council meeting on July 30th.
· Greensburg Planning Commission meetings are held Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. in the yellow and white tent on the square.

RESEARCHERS SEEKING GREENSBURG FAMILIES
Researchers at the University of California – Santa Barbara are interested in the interactions that took place between parents and their children before, during and after the tornado of May 4th.

Participation will involve a 60-90 minute phone interview with one parent and their child (ages 12-18), separately. In return for your participation, you family will receive compensation. Interviews will be scheduled for your convenience. Confidentiality is guaranteed.

The Salvation Army continues to provide assistance to those affected by the tornado at two locations.
· Pratt Warehouse: The warehouse is located at 201 S. Jackson St. Hours are Tuesday – Friday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Stop by to pick up food, household items, cleaning supplies and other house wares.
· Barclay College, Haviland: Hours are Tuesday – Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vouchers are available for gas, food, clothing, household supplies, furniture, appliances and building supplies. If you have not enrolled please come by. Grief counseling is available. The Barclay College site will be closing July 31st.

CARRIAGE HOUSE CELEBRATION
To celebrate the commitment of the Carriage House rebuilding, the Kansas Health Care Association and KCAL will be sponsoring a free barbecue on Wednesday, July 25th. The barbecue will begin at 5 p.m. and will include free entertainment.

The Haviland Recreation Commission will sponsor a trip to the White Water Bay water park in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, July 25th. Participants will leave at 7 a.m. and will return at 11:30 p.m., spending 6 hours at the park. The trip is free to all Kiowa County children. Adults over 19 years of age will pay $10. The evening meal is provided. Sponsors are needed for the trip. Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at least 19 years of age. CARRIAGE HOUSE CELEBRATION

DEBRIS REMOVAL
The period of free debris removal provided by the National Guard, Kansas Department of Transportation and various County Road and Bridge Departments has ended. Debris removal is now the responsibility of the homeowner or debris removal contractor.

KIOWA COUNTY LANDFILL
C&D Landfill is now closed to all debris except concrete. All other debris should be taken to the South Landfill.
South Landfill hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The landfill is currently free to residents. However, the landfill will begin charging $3.50 per cubic yard for debris on September 1st. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the free debris period.

WEST NILE VIRUS
With the first confirmed case of West Nile Virus found in Kansas, residents and volunteers are reminded to wear long sleeves during periods when mosquitoes are active, use a DEET containing insect repellent, and remove potential mosquito breeding sites such as tires, buckets, or any other object that can hold water.

REBUILDING GREENSBURG
A Three-day Housing Resource Fair is scheduled for July 19th – 21st to educate homeowners, businesses and builders on the benefits of building green. The fair will be held in the Barclay College Student Center, Haviland. Come learn how to make Greensburg a healthy, energy efficient, affordable town. HAVILAND RECREATION COMMISSION
The Haviland Recreation Commission will be traveling to the Crown Uptown Theatre on Saturday, July 14th to watch Beauty and the Beast. The trip will leave at 9 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. Free to all Kiowa County Children. Adults over 19 years of age pay $5. Evening meal is provided.

MORETOREUM UPDATE
At the July 9th City Council meeting, it was decided to allow the business district moratorium to expire on today. The Council decided to maintain the highway corridor moratorium until August 1st.

The Haviland Recreation Commission will be traveling to the Crown Uptown Theatre on Saturday, July 14th to watch Beauty and the Beast. The trip will leave at 9 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. Free to all Kiowa County Children. Adults over 19 years of age pay $5. Evening meal is provided.

LAUDRY REMAINS OPEN
The laundry service sponsored by the Kansas-Nebraska Southern Baptist Church will remain in Davis Park for 2 more weeks.

RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE
The American Red Cross will be sponsoring a blood drive honoring Greensburg tornado and Kansas disaster victims. The drive for life will be held on Friday, July 13th from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Bethel Mennonite Church, located 3 miles south and 1 mile west of the Highway 54 and 183 junction. A free Red Cross Commemorative t-shirt will be given to everyone who donates blood.

HIGH SCHOOL SWIM NIGHT
Kiowa County high school students are invited to a free swim night at the Pratt Municipal Swimming Pool on Thursday, July 12th from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The swim night is sponsored by the KAHBH. Transportation will be provided by the Pratt School District. Students will be picked up at Davis Park at 6:15 p.m. Please call 785-313-6359 to register for the swim night. A minimum of 20 people must register for the event to take place.

CAMP NOAH
The Kiowa County Ministerial Alliance will be hosting a vacation bible school program called “CAMP NOAH” August 6th – 10th. Volunteers are needed to help with the program. MEALS FOR SALE
· Cannonball Catering and WB’s Bulk Food is selling lunches just east of Davis Park.
· Kansan Restaurant is selling meals at the original restaurant location. Lunch is served Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner is served Monday through Friday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Kansan is closed on Sundays.

DEBRIS REMOVAL
The City is reviewing properties that have not been cleared of debris to determine “Immediate Hazards” and may begin taking action on such properties. Property owners willing to release the City and allow crews to enter properties for debris removal need to visit City Hall and sign a “Right of Entry” form. Property owners who sign the form will not have costs assessed to their properties.

KIOWA COUNTY GOVERNMENT
· County Offices are located on the square. Hours will be Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
· County Commission meetings are held on Mondays at 9:00 a.m. in the gray trailers directly west of the courthouse.
· C&D Landfill hours are Monday – Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The C&D landfill will be closing to all debris except concrete July 15th.
· South Landfill Tuesday – Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The South Landfill is closed Mondays.

GREENSBURG CITY HALL
· City Hall Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday.
· Lost and Found Station has been set up at City Hall. New items are arriving daily.
· City Council meetings are held Mondays at 5:00 p.m. in the yellow and white tent on the square.
· Planning Commission meetings are held Wednesdays at 5:00 p.m. in the yellow and white tent on the square.

CONCTRACTOR/RECONSTRUCTION INFO
· All contractors must register at City Hall between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. Contract work is prohibited without registration and/or license. Contractors are responsible for hauling jobsite debris and must plug any sewer lines.

SAFETY UPDATE:
· Curfew Hours remain in effect from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.
· Treat ALL power lines as if they are live. Call 911 if you observe an arcing power line.
· Leave room for emergency and military vehicles when parking.
· Take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water. Seek immediate medical attention if you feel dizzy, nauseated or experience vomiting.
· Never enter any building that appears unsafe.
· Respiratory protection is recommended for all workers. Dust masks and safety glasses are available at the Health Department on the square.
· Burning is prohibited in the Greensburg city limits. In rural areas, follow county ordinances. Burning is strongly discouraged in high winds.

DEBRIS CLEANUP
· Safety Tips
Protect yourself with gloves, hard-soled shoes or boots and respiratory masks as necessary. If you have a cut or scratch that does not heal normally, seek necessary medical attention.
· Debris Removal
Help speed up debris removal by placing it in the right of way. Keep debris at least three feet from utility poles, fire hydrants and water and gas meters.
· Hazardous Waste
Separate hazardous waste and “white goods” from other debris. Businesses needing to dispose of hazardous materials must call KDHE at 785-296-1679. Never handle damaged or leaking containers that might be hazardous.

· United Methodist Recovery Center is located at 322 N. Main in Haviland. Hours are Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Come sign up for volunteer assistance with clean-up, repair, or reconstruction. Items such as food, clothing, and bedding are also available.

SALVATION ARMY
The Salvation Army continues to provide assistance to those affected by the tornado at two locations.
· Pratt Warehouse: The warehouse is located at 201 S. Jackson St. Hours are Tuesday – Friday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Stop by to pick up food, household items, cleaning supplies and other house wares.
· Barclay College, Haviland: Hours are Tuesday – Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vouchers are available for gas, food, clothing, household supplies, furniture, appliances and building supplies. If you have not enrolled please come by. Grief counseling is available.

FEMA TRAILERS
Residents can view and inspect a FEMA travel trailer and manufactured home between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the west entrance to Davis Park. They are closed on Sundays. A FEMA specialist will be on hand to answer questions during regular hours.
