KIOWA COUNTY HEALTH FAIR
March 27, 2010 7:00-10:00 a.m.
School Gym 600 S. Main
Be sure to mark your calendar for March 27th as the date for our annual Health Fair. This event is sponsored by the Kiowa County Health Department and Kiowa County Memorial Hospital.
Comprehensive lab work will be available at the reduced price of $20.00. This includes test for liver, kidney and thyroid function, cholesterol levels, electrolytes, complete blood count and fasting blood sugar. Men may have a PSA drawn for the cost with the comprehensive blood work for $25.00. The American Cancer Society recommends this test each year for men over 50 in conjunction with a prostate exam by their physician. As in all cancers, early detection can result in halting the disease.
For the most accurate lab results, you will need to fast (withhold food and caloric drinks) for 12 hours before you have your blood drawn. It is important to increase your water consumption 24 hours before your blood draw. This keeps you from becoming dehydrated and makes the blood draw easier! You may take your morning medication with water or black coffee without breaking the fast.
There will be exhibitor’s setup throughout the School Gym covering a wide variety of services.
Water testing for private wells will be available but you will need to pick up containers before March 25 at the Health Department. You will then return them to the environmentalist on the day of the Health Fair. There will also be testing supplies available the day of the Health Fair, but the tester will need to send their sample back to the environmentalist.
The Greensburg Lion’s Club will be serving their Annual Breakfast during the Health Fair. Come and break your fast with the delicious menu!
For additional information or questions concerning the Health Fair contact the Kiowa County Health Department at 620-723-2136.
