Public Information Update

There will be a Town Hall meeting on Monday, May 11th at the Greensburg School Gymnasium from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

South Central Community Foundation and SCKTRO will present “Where the Money Went”. Come hear how the donated money was used.

Following the presentations, individuals will be able to go find out the latest information with the following groups:
Kiowa County United
Kiowa County Senior Center
Teen Center
Twilight Theatre
Volunteer Coordination (looking for projects)

The deadline for next week’s Yellow Sheet will be moved up to noon on Thursday, May 14th. The Yellow Sheet will also cover the dates of May 17th – 25th. Please make sure you get your community events into the sheet.

Residents who have rebuilt their homes in rural Kiowa County can contact the Kiowa County Conservation District office at 620-723-2146 for assistance on purchasing up to 5 trees for your home. Trees must be signed up for by May 15th and planted by June 1st to qualify for the grant money.

The GHS Alumni Banquet will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the gym. Tickets are $12.50 and can be purchased at Greensburg State Bank. The deadline is May 15, 2009. Contact Tom Corns at 620-723-2131 if you have any questions.

Haviland Telephone Company is proud to announce that GMAXX is ready to install as of May 1st. This is the newest wireless internet access available in Kiowa County and requires minimal equipment. If you are not sure that you can receive it in your location, your area can be tested by Haviland Telephone Company. For more information, please call 620-862-5211.

Representatives from Haviland Telephone will attend the May 12th meeting of the Kiowa County Business Development Groups with more information. The meeting will be held at the Kiowa County Meeting trailer and will begin at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Kiowa County United Ground Breaking
The Kiowa County United Building will be breaking ground for the new facility on Saturday, May 23rd at 11 a.m. The location of the facility will be at 100 South Main Street.

The GHS Alumni Picnic will be at noon, on May 23rd, at Davis Park. All GHS Alums who sign in at the registration table, will be given a ticket to present to Tina & Jay White, at their concession stand - and their lunch will be paid for by an anonymous GHS Alum. The Peoples Bank will have a Groundbreaking Ceremony at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 29th, at 102 S. Oak St. (building site). Following the groundbreaking, we will have a COMMUNITY BBQ from 11-1 at The Peoples Bank temporary bank location (303 E. Kansas Ave.)

The Lighthouse Worship Center will begin their second season of “The Biggest Loser” on Wednesday, May 13th. Anyone within our community is welcome to participate. The weight-loss program will run from May 13th through July 29th. Weekly weigh-ins will be held on Wednesdays from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.

The Lighthouse Worship Center will be hosting a “Ladies Day of Pampering” on Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church (804 W. Wisconsin). Ladies can choose from 5 care rooms:
· back and shoulder massage
· manicure & pedicure room
· skin care and make-up coloring consultations
· licensed counselor
· Wii fit, Wii sports room

A light lunch will be provided to those in attendance. There is no charge for the day of pampering so bring your best friend, mom, daughter and yourself!

The Kiowa County Wheat Plot Tour is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26th. The plot is located 1 mile east and ½ mile south of Haviland. The tour is being sponsored by Kiowa County Extension and the Farmers Coop of Haviland.

A community gardens area has been established for residents of Greensburg who do not have space for a garden. There are garden plots (15’x15’) available on a first come basis. The plots are $10.00 each. The ground will be worked and ready for planting. Water will be provided. Call the Extension Office for your garden plot at 620-723-2156.

The Greensburg Farmers Market is back! The market intends to attract vendors from the local area offering fresh produce, baked goods, and other specialty items.

We are looking for vendors. Vendors are responsible for bringing their own display tables and collecting their own sales tax. Each seller agrees to pay $5 for their booth space for doing business at the Market. If you have something to sell, please contact the Kiowa County Extension Office at 723-2156.

If you are a consumer who is looking to support local food production, here is a great opportunity! Show your neighbors that you are interested in eating locally, saving on gasoline, and keeping the local economy healthy.

· All Office’s Hours: Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
· County Offices are located on the square.
· Court Services and County Attorney are located in the beige trailers located to the north of the courthouse.
· Long Term Recovery is located in the gray trailer west of the courthouse (205 S. Oak).
· County Commission meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays and the last working day of the month at 9:00 a.m. in the Kiowa County Meeting trailer located at 219 S. Oak.
· South Landfill hours are Monday – Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The landfill is now charging $3.50 per cubic yard for debris.

· City Hall Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday.

· City Council meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. The meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be held in the Kiowa County Meeting trailer, located at 219 S. Oak.
· Greensburg Planning Commission meetings are held on Wednesdays when needed at 7:30 p.m. in the Kiowa County Meeting trailer, located at 219 S. Oak. Check with City Hall for upcoming meeting dates.
· Greensburg Trash Routes are running as North/South streets on Mondays and East/West streets on Fridays. Trash must be out by 8 a.m. or it will not be picked up.
· Big Well Gift Shop hours are Monday – Saturday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sundays 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. The phone number for the gift shop is 620-723-4102.

· City Hall hours are Monday – Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
· City Hall phone number is 620-862-5317. Please call if you have questions.
· City Council meetings are held the first Monday of the month. At 7 p.m. in the community room.
· Trash service is provided by the county. The West side of town is picked up on Tuesdays. The East side of town is picked up on Fridays. Businesses are on Tuesday and Fridays. Please have your trash at the curb by 8 a.m.

· City Hall hours are Monday – Friday 7 to 8 a.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
