TOWN HALL MEETING
There will be a Town Hall meeting on Monday, May 11th at the Greensburg School Gymnasium from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

South Central Community Foundation and SCKTRO will present “Where the Money Went”. Come hear how the donated money was used.

Following the presentations, individuals will be able to go find out the latest information with the following groups:
Kiowa County United
Kiowa County Senior Center
Teen Center
And more

GMAXX INTERNET IS HERE
Haviland Telephone Company is proud to announce that GMAXX is ready to install as of May 1st. This is the newest wireless internet access available in Kiowa County and requires minimal equipment. If you are not sure that you can receive it in your location, your area can be tested by Haviland Telephone Company. For more information, please call 620-862-5211.

Representatives from Haviland Telephone will attend the May 12th meeting of the Kiowa County Business Development Groups to explain the equipment needed, pricing, and how the new wireless works. The meeting will be held at the Kiowa County Meeting trailer and will begin at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

GREEENSBURG ALUMNI PICNIC
The GHS Alumni Picnic will be at noon, on Saturday, May 23rd, at Davis Park. All GHS Alums who sign in at the registration table, will be given a ticket to present to Tina & Jay White, at their concession stand - and their lunch will be paid for by an anonymous GHS Alum. For more information - contact Susan Tucker McGuire (GHS 1963) at suemcguire@fuse.net Bring a lawnchair, or a blanket, and spend the afternoon visiting with classmates, friends, family.

COMMUNITY GARDENS
A community gardens area has been established for residents of Greensburg who do not have space for a garden. There are 36 garden plots (15’x15’) available on a first come basis. The plots are $10.00 each. The ground will be worked and ready for planting. Water will be provided at no cost. Call the Extension Office for your garden plot at 620-723-2156.

FARMERS MARKET TO START MAY 9TH
The Greensburg Farmers Market is back bigger than ever! Brought to you by the Kiowa County Extension Office, City of Greensburg, and Greensburg GreenTown, the market intends to attract vendors from the local area offering fresh produce, baked goods, and other specialty items.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR VENDORS. If you have something to sell, please contact the Kiowa County Extension Office at 723-2156.

Vendors are responsible for bringing their own display tables and collecting their own sales tax. Each seller agrees to pay $5 for their booth space for doing business at the Market.

Following is a listing of the kinds of items the Market is looking to attract:
· fresh produce from area gardens and farms
· fresh herbs
· cut flowers
· potted plants and flowers
· eggs (please contact the Extension Office for specific regulations related to the sale of eggs)
· baked goods (except those containing milk)
· locally-made craft items
· nuts
· honey
· vinegars
· jams and jellies

Regulations PROHIBIT the following items from being offered for sale:
· fresh meat and fish
· dairy products of any kind (including cream pies and cheese cake)
· flavored oils
· home canned products (with the exception of jams and jellies)

If you are a consumer who is looking to support local food production, here is a great opportunity! Show your neighbors that you are interested in eating locally, saving on gasoline, and keeping the local economy healthy.

Tell your friends and neighbors about the Market! Come down to Davis Park on Saturday from 8 – 11 a.m.!

TREES FOR RURAL RESIDENTS
Residents who have rebuilt their homes in rural Kiowa County can contact the Kiowa County Conservation District office at 620-723-2146 for assistance on purchasing up to 5 trees for your home. Trees must be signed up for by May 15th and planted by June 1st to qualify for the grant money.

GREENSBURG ALUMNI BANQUET
The GHS Alumni Banquet will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the gym. Tickets are $12.50 and can be purchased at Greensburg State Bank. The deadline is May 15, 2009. KIOWA COUNTY GOVERNMENT
· All Office’s Hours: Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
· County Offices are located on the square.
· Court Services and County Attorney are located in the beige trailers located to the north of the courthouse.
· Long Term Recovery is located in the gray trailer west of the courthouse (205 S. Oak).
· County Commission meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays and the last working day of the month at 9:00 a.m. in the Kiowa County Meeting trailer located at 219 S. Oak.
· South Landfill hours are Monday – Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The landfill is now charging $3.50 per cubic yard for debris.

GREENSBURG CITY GOVERNMENT
· City Hall Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday.
· City Hall Phone Number is 620-723-2751.

· City Council meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. The meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be held in the Kiowa County Meeting trailer, located at 219 S. Oak.
· Greensburg Planning Commission meetings are held on Wednesdays when needed at 7:30 p.m. in the Kiowa County Meeting trailer, located at 219 S. Oak. Check with City Hall for upcoming meeting dates.
· Greensburg Trash Routes are running as North/South streets on Mondays and East/West streets on Fridays. Trash must be out by 8 a.m. or it will not be picked up.
· Big Well Gift Shop hours are Monday – Saturday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sundays 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. The phone number for the gift shop is 620-723-4102.

HAVILAND CITY GOVERNMENT
· City Hall hours are Monday – Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
· City Hall phone number is 620-862-5317. Please call if you have questions.
· City Council meetings are held the first Monday of the month. At 7 p.m. in the community room.
· Trash service is provided by the county. The West side of town is picked up on Tuesdays. The East side of town is picked up on Fridays. Businesses are on Tuesday and Fridays. Please have your trash at the curb by 8 a.m.

MULLINVILLE CITY GOVERNMENT
· City Hall hours are Monday – Friday 7 to 8 a.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

· City Council meetings are held third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in City hall.
· Trash service is provided by the county. West side of town on Tuesdays and East side of town on Fridays.
